I studied Cryptography Math in Grad School, crypto was always BS.
I remember the first time I heard the word “Blockchain”. I was knee-deep in graduate studies, focusing on the mathematics behind cryptography. The whole world was abuzz with this new-age digital gold, cryptocurrencies.
You’d hear hushed conversations in university corridors, heated debates in the cafeteria, and everywhere, the term ‘crypto’ echoed like the hymn of a digital future.
Let me clarify something right off the bat — understanding the math behind something doesn’t necessarily mean you believe in its application. In fact, in my case, the more I delved into the math, the more I felt disconnected from the concept of cryptocurrencies. Some days, it felt like navigating a maze with no real end in sight. There were times I’d jokingly tell my peers, “It’s like we’re all part of this grand Ponzi scheme, and no one’s figured it out yet!”
A professor I deeply respected once said, “It’s either all a joke or none of it is.” That sentence stuck with me. Was I the only one who felt like crypto was a high-stakes game where the rules kept changing?
